This station operated in South-West London on AM for 16 years
from 1969 to 1985, and for the last 2 years of her life was on
the air 24 hours a day. Many think that she helped pave the way
for the opening up of the airwaves which has happened slowly over
the past few years. As part of marking her 10 years off the air,
I thought I'd include a small feature here. As 'GEOFF ROGERS',
a broadcasting name that has stuck with me over the years even
during my ventures into legitimate radio, I spent many happy hours
behind the microphone in various studios in South-West London,
dodging the men from the ministry and having a really good time.
If you can stand the sight and have a strong stomach, click here
to see me on the air on my first night ! (I apologize for the
sideburns, but this was 1983 !) There is much to say about Jackie
and I have already started to update this page with some
great photos, from the 'Radio Jackie Story ' LP record below in
the 'Gallery' below more to come soon.
Suffice it to say, that it closed down on February 4, 1985, more
than 12 years ago, and it will never be forgotten. As you will
all know, Radio Jackie failed in her bid to get the licence for
South West London, which was awarded to 'THAMES FM'. Such a travesty
of justice has yet to be bettered in the annals of British Radio.
I'm including various jingles from the
various packages we had on the station for your enjoyment, and
the list will be added to shortly, using Real Audio 3 which gives
very good quality over the internet.
